JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for supervising all facility-wide activities as well as primary administrative responsibilities on a given shift. This position is the highest acting authority on site during off hours. Primary area of focus is to ensure production schedules are met while maintaining product quality levels and a safe working environment.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assure proper and efficient use of staff and equipment to meet production needs on assigned shifts while maintaining cost and overtime to a minimum.

  2. Ensures that all product is produced conforms to product specifications for each customer.

  3. Assists in maintaining, creating, and enforcing accurate policies and procedures across entire facility.

  4. Fosters a safe work environment by adhering to and enforcing all safety policies and regulations.

  5. Coaches team and holds them accountable for their action by administering disciplinary actions

  6. Effectively ensures equipment and facilities are fully operational in conjunction with maintenance staff and through coordination with the previous shift.

  7. Accommodates training of assigned shift employees to ensure their knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures relating to the safety, quality, and productivity for their assigned areas.

  8. Analyzes area operations and recommends measures for continuous improvement. Also supports and promotes employee involvement in continuous improvement programs.

  9. Provides leadership and direction via good communication skills.

  10. Ensures employees are always treated and addressed in a professional manner.

  11. Maintains work areas in a neat and orderly condition, including shift end cleanup.

  12. Works with Planning, Customer Service and Operations Manager to improve on time delivery and production efficiency.

  13. Work on assigned projects, objectives or other duties as assigned.

     

    Responsibilities:

    Directly and indirectly supervises up to 90 employees across the facility on a given shift.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and any applicable federal or state laws. 

    These responsibilities apply to all assigned shift personnel and include the following:

  • Enforcing organizational policies as outlined in the company handbook.

  • Tracking attendance and recording employee work hours.

  • Interviewing and recommending employees for hire.

  • Communicating and working with Production Manager to fulfill day-to-day staffing needs.

  • Performing safety accident investigations and follow up.

  • Assigning and directing work.

  • Appraising work performance; coaching, rewarding, and disciplining employees

  • Addressing complaints (both internal and external).

  • Total shift ownership of employee safety, food quality and plant performance

This position will also fill other supervisory or operational duties as required including other departments or functions as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred.  Significant work experience in production operations / management will be considered in lieu of degree.

 

Experience

Prior related supervisory experience is desired, preferably in a food manufacturing environment. Experience with Microsoft applications, ERP systems, and relational databases is desirable.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret organizational handbook, business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and organizational procedures.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical / Technical Skills

Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to learn and use computer business applications. 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems in situations where only limited standardization may exist.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to develop and apply statistical process control techniques.
