Job Summary – Senior Innovation Scientist, Global BioNutrients:



 Customer Technical Interface:

  • Build relationship with customers at account assignments where R&D projects are initiated.
  • Provide technical support to assigned projects, which includes lab work, customer interactions, presentation of findings and results, ownership, and follow up.
  • Develops and executes projects utilizing the appropriate tools to plan and document results.

Hands-on technical development:

  • Provide technical service to clients and prospects, advice on proper use of BioNutrients solutions, and provides samples, technical data and specifications.
  • Work across all market segments.
  • Work closely with operations and quality on specification review and protocol robustness.
  • Support development of samples for ideation sessions.
  • Support presentations to customer where technical expertise is required.

Technical expertise:

  • Keeps up-to-date on new technology, application and regulations for fermentation, animal nutrition and food industries as applicable.
  • Stays connected with key professional organizations.
  • Juneau production and processing training.

Essential Duties:

  • Execute upon Innovation Pipeline projects and customer-driven technical service initiatives.  Align with sales, strategic marketing and operations during concept, scale-up and commercialization phases of all project work.
  • Drive a culture of Innovation. Evaluate products in current portfolio, understand relevant market segments and opportunities, assess commercial filters, and assign value propositions to new products in Innovation Pipeline. 
  • Lead customer projects from Pipeline through R&D connections, develop technical content, and lead technical interactions with strategic customers.
  • Independently design, execute, and summarize projects in fermentation across a diverse set of microorganisms, media formulations, and downstream applications 
  • Develop, execute, and improve current analytical assays 
  • Engage in literature research in relevant technical areas to support new product development, product launches, and existing portfolio of products and applications; share information with R&D team
  • Evaluate competitive landscape, review publications, patents, and technologies
  • Actively participate in the identification and management of external relationships and partnerships for third party research agreements.
  • Represent Sensient Global BioNutrients at conferences through posters and presentations.
  • Maintain a safe work area that complies with company standards.
  • Maintain timely and accurate laboratory records in a company approved manner.
  • Drive long term, sustainable business growth through identification and quantification of new project opportunities and converting these opportunities to new sales.  Establishes criteria and applies knowledge to develop solutions that meet customer needs and help drive movement of projects in the sales project pipeline.
  • Coordinates project activity with the senior account manager and sales team, ensuring emphasis is placed on highest priority opportunities.  Track and follow up on all projects. 
  • Interface with the appropriate personnel at the company’s accounts as necessary to meet customer needs and fulfill sales objectives including order review and management.  Provide technical service to clients and prospects, advice on proper use of technologies, and provides samples, technical data, and specifications through support of internal resources.


  • Ability to rapidly assimilate and synthesize information, and to objectively evaluate approaches.
  • Ability to evaluate commercial relevance.
  • Strong analytical techniques.
  • Critical thinking, intense curiosity, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated effective technical communication with customers 
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office. 
  • Ability to independently gather facts, plan and execute experiments, and objectively evaluate data and present to a diverse audience.



  • PhD and five years of experience in Biotechnology, Biology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry or
  • Master’s Degree and ten years of experience in Biotechnology, Biology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry.
  • Experience in growing industrially important microorganisms in industries including but not limited to probiotics, dairy, enzymes, wine & spirits and biocontrols.
  • Experience in production of secondary metabolites, which includes the fermentation process and downstream processing. 
  • Experience in media optimization, various analytical methods and assay development is preferred.
