JOB SUMMARY:  Position will be responsible for leading and maintaining all SNI production of Organic crops.  Lead conventional crop production in Kern County.  Will be responsible for selecting growers, maintaining and growing the grower base, and ensuring a grower base that will meet the goals and objectives of SNI.  Will ensure that SNI obtains and maintains organic certification on all organic crops from the field to production.  Direct supervision of hourly and salary field staff responsible for planting, harvesting and delivering crop for dehydration. 



  1. Become an expert in all aspects of organic crop production.

  2. Develop, maintain and expand an organic grower base for all dehydrated crop production.

  3. Oversee cultural practices and documentation to maintain organic certification.

  4. Develop relationship with organic certifying agency ensuring compliance of organic crop production. 

  5. Select growers and land that meet the objectives of SNI.

  6. Contract land with growers to minimize risk to company.

  7. Obtain all required data from growers ensuring timing and accuracy of data.  This includes field history prior to field selection, specific field data prior to planting, crop monitoring data throughout the growing year and required data prior to harvest.

  8. Maintain working relationships with key grower contacts such as, managers, PCA’s, irrigation foreman, tractor foreman, etc.  Ensure that the actions of these contacts align with the goals and objectives of SNI.

  9. Monitor the crop throughout the season and staying abreast on current crop conditions, what has happened to the crop and what the grower’s plans are for the crop.

  10. Through awareness, investigation, planning and responsiveness work with necessary contacts to prevent specific crop conditions that increase risks to the company.

  11. Directly responsible to ensure that specific fields are adequately prepared meeting standards of planting and harvesting.

  12. Work with internal and external contacts to resolve specific crop problems minimizing risks to crops.

  13. Supervise and control security of seed distribution to growers, planting and documentation of use and inventory controls.

  14. Provides regular crop updates to all necessary personnel including Field Operations, Operations Directors, Grower Contacts, Research Personnel, etc.

  15. Works with Crop Safety Coordinator to ensure that all aspects of FSMA, GAP and Sustainability are met and observed.

  16. Lead the initiative to maintain current mass balance sustainability certification and exspand to segregated certification.

  17. Lead efforts for all external and internal path audits

  18. Perform accurate crop projections for all assigned crops.

  19. Directly supervise hourly and salary field staff responsible for harvesting and delivering of crop for dehydration as needed.

  20. Performs all other duties assigned.




Good analytical and interpretive skills.  Ability to formulate and maintain schedules for multiple priorities.  Ability to effectively use resources and supervise hourly and salaried staff.  Good written and oral communication skills are a must.  Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.  Ability to make decisions independently.  Must have good working knowledge of asset and revenue as related to crops under direct control.




B.S. in Agriculture related field.  1-2 years of organic crop production is preferred.
